André Lepecki
Performing Theory
In his lecture André Lepecki discusses the ways in which performance theory and practice influence one another, urging a revival of the critical discourse in performance criticism. Lepecki has also been invited to accompany the festival process of IN TRANSIT and comment on it in his lecture.
The essayist, dramaturg and dance critic André Lepecki teaches dance theory and experimental dramaturgy at New York University. He regularly publishes articles on dance, performance and cultural theory in European and American journals such as Ballet International, The Drama Review, Performance Research, Nouvelles de Dance and ArtForum. As a dramaturg and set designer he has worked with the Portuguese choreographer Vera Mantero, Francisco Camacho and João Fiadeiro, beginning a collaboration with Meg Stuart and the Brussels dance company Damaged Goods in 1992. With the designer Bruce Mau he directed the installation STRESS at the Wiener Festwochen 2000 and co-directed the installation proXy by Rachel Swain in Sydney in 2002.
