The House of World Cultures is a platform for international arts
and cross-border cultural issues. Since its foundation in 1989,
the House of World Cultures has made a name for itself worldwide
as a special venue. Its brief remains unique until this day.
The House of World Cultures has its seat in a building that was originally
designed as a congress hall and is today one of Berlin's landmarks.
It is located in the cultural and political centre of Berlin.
The House of World Cultures is funded by the German government's
representative for cultural and media affairs and by the German
foreign office. This dual funding produces a commitment to culture
both nationally and internationally. Nationally, the work of the
House of World Cultures is aimed at the internationalization of
the arts, their reception, and points of view. Internationally,
its programmes and work testify Germany's special interest in global
development and issues. In its choice of programmes, the House of
World Cultures is independent. The House of World Cultures is a
non-profit making company.
