We are experiencing a tremendous and rapid change in the meaning of art and culture. While migration and globalisation are fundamentally transforming concepts of homogeneous national culture; art and culture are being charged with new political meaning. Alongside the conservative concepts of national, ethnic, or religious identity, new stories are emerging; they are the counter-myths. These are based on the lives of people, on their specific experiences, on respect for their individual truths. These perspectives and stories form the basis of contemporary performing arts. The festival IN TRANSIT, being staged for the second time, is devoted to them.

This year's theme 'Customs: Nothing the Declare' alludes to the conditions of post-colonial cultural production - customs are frontiers and their control mechanisms, customs are mores and traditions, which cross all borders meet and enter into international dialogue in the context of globalisation and migration.
